Once you and your family have made the decision to move your loved one into a senior living community or assisted living community, you will need to actually plan the physical move. Taking some extra time to plan can ensure that the move is less stressful and easier for your loved one and the whole family. At Twin Town Villa, we are happy to work with you every step of the way to make sure that your loved one’s move is successful.
Involve Your Loved One in the Process
Whenever and however possible, involve your loved one in the process of moving into an assisted living community. They may already be experiencing feelings like stress, depression, anxiety, abandonment, and loss of control. You can help ease these feelings by letting them assist in selecting belongings, packing, and decorating their new space or apartment in the senior living community.
Take a Tour of the Assisted Living Community
Before you can determine exactly what furniture and belongings your loved one can and can’t take with them into the assisted living community, you will need to take a tour or make an additional visit. Bring your loved one with you so that they know what to expect during the move. Take measurements of the new living space and ask us about how residents are allowed to customize the space if you have questions.
Hire a Moving and Storage Company
Hiring a moving and storage company can significantly ease the stress of moving your loved one into an assisted living community. Some organizations, such as AARP, even offer a discount to seniors who are moving. Using a storage facility can also ease some of the burdens of deciding exactly what you can and can’t take with you.
Get a First Level Apartment or Room if you can
Apartments that are on the first level are often preferred. They are easier to access, not only for the movers when it is time to move in but also for the resident and their family. First-level apartments are currently available at Twin Town Villa in Breckenridge, but not for long. Contact us for current availability!
