Meaning behind the “Fourth of July!”
Blogging is still very new to me so when I sat down to write this blog I didn’t know where to start. I found many articles and facts about the day, but how do I write about this without boring you? Then I thought, how would I explain this to my children without losing their interest? Now I’m not saying you have the knowledge of children but a summary of the day in layman’s terms would be more interesting than a long boring article, at least for me.
So I asked my children (5yrs & 8yrs.), “What does the 4th of July represented, what does it mean”?
Their answers, “We celebrate the USA. We get to go to the lake with our cousins and watch fireworks.” “We go to grandma & grandpas for fireworks and swimming.” I think they got a pretty good idea, celebrating the USA with family and friends.
Here is a summary of the great American holiday that is celebrated each July 4th, Independence Day!
The Fourth of July celebrates the signing of the Declaration of Independence. United States citizens have been celebrating this day for over 240 years. In 1775 a fight began between with New England .vs. Great Britain. The New England 13 colonies were connected by land to North America however was controlled by Great Britain. New England declared independence and decided to join North America. Together they became the United States of America on July 4, 1776.
No holiday brings together more people than the Fourth of July. From large cities to small towns you can see patriotic banners, and flags. This is times when family and friends get together to celebrate our freedom. Whether it’s being on the lake, at the beach, parades, barbecues, trips to historical locations or right in your own backyard. Come dusk we are all looking up waiting for the sky to erupt with beautiful fireworks in celebration of our independence!
